Classes > Civilians > Merchant
Also known as Trader. A master of the art of bartering, and an expert at haggling who has connections in every city and is thoroughly in tough with the secretive economic underworld. Characters with less than 14 INT and CHA cannot pursue this profession.
Merchants are motivated by a singular purpose in life: the pursuit of wealth at any cost shy of betraying their own moral code (for the few of them who even have use for such a system.) Lawful Merchants are extremely hard-working, almost to a superhuman degree, and believe that monopolies are the natural end result of a perfect product. Chaotic Merchants are more than glad to lie, cheat, steal, cause conspiracy or even start wars to proliferate their fame and connections. Similarly, the difference between Good and Evil Merchants is in whether the aim of their venture is to honestly better the lives of commoners or to line their own pockets.
Merchants start out fluent in 2 languages. +4 Diplomacy, Judge and Bluff. They can use their CHA value as a discount to any object bought from another trader.
Level 3: Merchants gain advantage on all Diplomacy, Judge and Bluff checks. They also learn 1 more language of their choice.
Level 7: Merchants gain +10 to Appraise. They also learn 1 more language. When in a city, they may roll Diplomacy DC 15 to see if they can find a friendly connection willing to supply them with information. They lose advantage if in an unfamiliar city.
Level 13: Find 20% more gold anywhere that gold might drop. Learn 1 more language
Level 17: Can requisition any item that can reasonably be made by any culture in the world that won't mind selling it. Takes a week to arrive. Learn 1 more language
